Good Year on Fort

Dear South Baltimore Neighbors:

My husband and I moved to Locust Point in spring of year 2005 and like anyone else who is new to a neighborhood we didn’t know where is a good place to get an oil change.  The Good Year on Fort Ave inside the Southside Shopping center was very conveniently located with constant supply of deep discounted oil change coupons.  Like most people we decided to use Good Year as our oil change place.

Two weeks after my second oil change at the Good Year my car started making a weird noise and of course due to its convenient location I took it back to Good Year to ask why my car is making a weird noise after the oil change.  They told me my break fluid was almost on empty due to a leakage and conveniently they had the part on hand so I could get it fixed right away. Their excuse was my car is an aging car.  I was immediately suspicious since I drive a Toyota and it was not an old car.  I work in the city so I don’t drive much at all.  The only people touched my car was the mechanics from Good Year.   My husband told me it probably was just a coincident and dismissed my suspicion.

A week a go my husband took his Honda in for an oil change.  Sure enough two weeks later his car died due to a leakage.  This time around his master car steering fluid leaked.  Like me he took it back to the Good Year due to its convenient location and they gave him the same story.  They had the part ready available for same day service and it happens to aging car.

I know it is hard to prove but suspicions are usually right.  So, dear neighbors please don’t take your car to Good Year for oil change.  Even though you might not experience anything the first time or the second time.  Sooner or later they are going to do something to your car and make you crazy.  Go take your car elsewhere where they can’t benefit from messing with your car.

Thanks,

Concerned Neighbor

Re: Good Year on Fort

The Good Year is pretty bad.  I've had some serious problems with their work as well, and I don't go back except for tires.  I take my car to a speciality show, but go to Comprehensive Car Care in Mt. Vernon for good all-around care.

Re: Good Year on Fort
I too notice a difference up there at the Goodyear.  I have been using them since they opened with excellent results.  But last year I had some acceleration problems with my car.  Goodyear charged me $85 for a "check" which involved sticking my car on the computer for 5 minutes.  They also rushed me and did not spend too much time listening to me or explaining anything. The told me I needed a new transmission for $2800.  I laughed in their face.

I then went over to Atlantic Transmission on Belle Grove road, Ed charged me nothing to look at my car for 1/2 hour and then told me my fuel injectors needed cleaning.  Problem solved for a little over $150.  He also provided transportation to and from Locust Point so I didn't have to wait out there.

Something is very wrong over at the Goodyear.

Re: Good Year on Fort

Definite problems at that Goodyear.  I took it there once for an oil change and to have a headlight replaced.  I guess that they had to remove my front bumper to access the headlight and they did not reattach it properly.  I overshot a parking curb (barely) a couple of days later, and it practically ripped of my entire front bumper when I backed out of the parking space.

I also had a spare part just laying on top of my engine when I popped the hood.

I think the problem is that they may have a bad apple in the mechanic department who either doesn't care or doesn't know what he's doing.

Going forward, I'll go someplace else despite the convenience of the location.
