Re: Parking

Parking has been an issue in LP for a very long time.  Unfortunately, there are no easy answers.  I do not like the idea of having to pay for a permit to park in front on my house.  A permit is no guarantee of a parking space.  New construction requires off-street parking however it appears the majority of new construction homeowners prefer to park in front of their homes and not in their garages.  Could parking permits be for only those who do not have off-street parking?

This is what concerns me.  Homeowners have 2 off-street parking spaces and 3 cars.  They are upset because they cannot get parking for the third car in front of their house.   So the way to remedy this is permit parking?   Giving someone 3 parking permits, when in fact, only one is really needed can't be a reasonable solution.

Most of the people who park in front of your home are your neighbors.  Please take note that I said "most".  With permit parking it willl still be your neighbors in front of your home.  But it may result in neighbors with off-street parking being on the street instead of the garages because they have permits.

Re: Parking

So where do the people patronizing the local businesses park? City Limits patrons park on the residential side of Andre Street and are not encouraged to use the open parking by the Park. Hull Street Blues is in the middle of the block. And J.Patricks has no parking either.

Permit parking does NOT guarantee you a space. I would rather walk a few blocks than pay for parking I may not get. I am really tired of paying so much extra to live in the city. We also have many elderly neighbors who don't need another bill to pay.

The biggest problem is with people who do not know how to park in the city. Newcomers with high end cars leave enough space in front and behind them that they take up 2 spots. I find this very inconsiderate. One way to fix that problem would be to mark the spaces.

Another idea for those who could do it would be to see if you could work with your neighbors to partially take down fences in the alley's. If my neighbor would agree to remove the fence between our yards we both would be able to make the turn and park behind our house. Even with the fence partially down, I would still have enough room for a small yard.

I also thought they were supposed to put angled parking in on the Park side of Andre Street.
